In a surprising turn of events during a US Senate hearing with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, protesters passionately voiced their demand for an immediate Gaza ceasefire. Amid discussions on a $106 billion national security funding request that includes substantial support for Israel's efforts against Hamas, numerous demonstrators, including some from CODEPINK, repeatedly shouted "Ceasefire now!" This interruption resulted in lawmakers pausing the hearing multiple times to restore order. Capitol Police intervened, leading to the arrest of 12 individuals. Many protesters wore pink and held signs opposing the Gaza blockade while calling for an end to US financial support to Israel. Some CODEPINK members were arrested, and several symbolically painted their hands red "to symbolize blood." The protest also invoked Quranic wisdom from Surah Al-Isra (17:14), emphasizing the urgency of the situation: "Read thou thy writ! Thy soul this day suffices as reckoner against thee."
