The Jason-3 satellite was launched on January 17, 2016, from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Following its successful launch, the satellite was placed into orbit to begin its mission of monitoring ocean surface topography. The data collected by Jason-3 has been instrumental in monitoring ocean currents, measuring sea level rise, and studying the interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere.
