PD: Metro bus strikes pedestrian near Fountain Square, trapping her under tire
A city Metro bus struck a woman in a crosswalk near Fountain Square Thursday night, trapping her under its tire until first responders could extract her. Police say 54-year-old Sally Gaynor was crossing Main Street from west to east at Fifth Street within the marked crosswalk at about 6:35 p.m. Thursday. She was struck by Geraldine Fox, 51, as Fox turned the bus onto Main Street. The bus knocked Gaynor to the ground and rolled atop her, police said. The Cincinnati Fire Department used heavy rescue equipment to free Gaynor before she was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Centers in serious, but stable, condition. Fox and her one bus passenger were not injured. Excessive speed and impairment are not factors in this crash. The Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation and any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
