The orangutan, native to the lush rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia, is an iconic species known for its remarkable intelligence, distinct appearance, and critical role in the delicate balance of its ecosystem.

These highly intelligent great apes are among the most arboreal of primates, spending the majority of their lives in the treetops. Their name, derived from the Malay and Indonesian words "orang" meaning person and "hutan" meaning forest, aptly describes these "people of the forest."
