Adam Johnson died during a hockey game by an opposing team members skate/blade. This resulted in Adam Johnsons throat being cut causing death by blood loss. The NHL as well as news outlets have stated this to be a "freak accident", but the video of the incident shows otherwise.

Matt Petgrave, the player who killed Adam Johnson is seen slamming into Adam but raising his foot over shoulder height in order to connect the fatal blow. He then falls to the ground along with Adam Johnson who begins losing tremendous amounts of blood instantly. This death has called for minor leagues, and foreign leagues to implement neck guards as well as other safety precautions.
