Mahmoud Shalabi, Gaza director for Medical Aid for Palestinians, has described the ‘vicious’ attacks that took place in Gaza as Israel imposed a blackout. At the same time as communications were lost on Friday evening, Israel intensified its aerial bombardment and launched its initial ground operation into the strip following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel more than three weeks ago.'Those attacks were coupled with the blackout of the internet and telecommunication in all of Gaza Strip. It meant total darkness for the people in Gaza,' says Shalabi. 'I can't as a humanitarian even do my work. I can't help the people who are still standing in the north of Gaza. I'm asking for safe corridors. I'm asking for a ceasefire and this bloodshed to stop.'
