What is dark energy? What is dark matter? Well, if we knew exactly we would have a nobel prize – we know that they exist though. So what do we know about those strange things?

Dark energy is a mysterious and little-understood form of energy that is believed to permeate the entire universe. It is one of the most significant and puzzling components of the cosmos, and its existence was first proposed to explain the observed accelerated expansion of the universe.

Key points about dark energy include:

Accelerated Expansion: In the late 1990s, astronomers made a groundbreaking discovery. They found that the universe's expansion is not slowing down due to gravity, as previously believed, but is actually speeding up. This finding was confirmed by observing distant supernovae and measuring their redshifts. The cause of this accelerated expansion is attributed to dark energy.

Repulsive Force: Dark energy is often described as a mysterious force or energy that acts in opposition to gravity. While gravity is an attractive force that pulls matter together, dark energy appears to exert a repulsive force, causing the universe to expand at an accelerating rate.

Cosmic Equation of State: Dark energy is characterized by a parameter called the equation of state, often denoted as "w." A value of w equal to -1 is consistent with a cosmological constant (the "Lambda" in the Lambda-CDM model), which is a form of dark energy proposed by Albert Einstein. In this scenario, dark energy's energy density remains constant as the universe expands. If w deviates from -1, it could indicate a more complex and dynamic form of dark energy.

Cosmic Microwave Background: The cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) is the afterglow of the Big Bang and provides crucial information about the early universe. The CMB data, along with other observations, supports the idea of dark energy's existence.

Cosmic Structure: Dark energy's influence on the universe's large-scale structure is also significant. It suppresses the growth of structure by opposing the gravitational attraction of matter, making it a dominant force on cosmological scales.#Universe
