Israeli-Palestinian war history
.......Israeli-Palestinian War.......
The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is deeply rooted in historical, religious and political factors. It began in the late 19th century with the migration of Jewish immigrants to Palestine, then part of the Ottoman Empire, instigated by the Zionist movement. Tensions increased with the 1917 Balfo Declaration, in which the British government expressed support for a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine.
After World War I, the League of Nations gave Britain a mandate to rule Palestine. In the following decades, Jewish immigration increased, and conflicts arose between the Jewish and Arab communities. The United Nations proposed a partition plan in 1947, leading to the creation of Israel on May 14, 1948. This event marked the beginning of the First Arab-Israeli War.
Since then, the conflict has seen multiple wars, uprisings and negotiations. Major events include the Six Day War of 1967, which resulted in the occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. The Camp David Accords of 1978 and the Oslo Accords of 1993 are attempts at peace, but a lasting solution remains elusive.
The core issues of the conflict revolve around borders, refugees, security and the status of Jerusalem. Israelis seek secure borders and recognition as a Jewish state. The Palestinians seek statehood, a proposal for refugees displaced in the 1948 and 1967 wars, and control of East Jerusalem as their capital.
The conflict has had far-reaching consequences. It has displaced millions of Palestinians, cost many lives, and become a source of tension in the Middle East. The conflict also affects regional politics as it has led to wars and alliances with various countries in the region.
Efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have been made through various international initiatives, including the Middle East Quartet and the United Nations. However, many attempts at peace have failed, often due to a lack of trust, ongoing violence, and disputes over territory and settlements.
The United States made renewed efforts to facilitate peace talks, but a comprehensive solution remained elusive. The situation has evolved since then, and it is essential to consult the latest sources for up-to-date information.
Finally, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a deep-rooted problem with historical, religious and political dimensions. Achieving a lasting resolution is challenging, but international efforts to bring peace and a two-state solution are essential to regional stability and the well-being of Israelis and Palestinians.
