BBC QUESTION ANGERS PALESTINIAN AMBASSADOR

Imagine a psychopath took 10 children hostage in a London hospital. Would Brits pulverise the building with bombs and missiles to rescue them? This is the argument Husam Zomlot, Palestinian ambassador to the United Kingdom, made during a 8 October BBC interview when asked if a Palestinian resistance group was using Palestinians as human shields. Essentially, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

This kind of allegation is not new. During the height of the Biafran War, the British government sent weapons to Nigeria, while the BBC painted the victims of the ensuing violence as the villains. About 500,000 to 2 million Biafran civilians were killed. The BBC used its propaganda machinery to confuse the world as the Nigerian state, supported by the British, committed war crimes against Biafrans. So why should we believe the BBC now?

According to NGO Save the Children International, the number of children killed in just the past three weeks in the Gaza Strip is more than the number killed in armed conflict globally, across more than 20 countries, over the course of a whole year during each of the last three years. The annual death toll for children was only higher in 2019.

Despite US President Joe Biden casting doubt on the death toll figure since the 7 October escalation in the Palestine-Israel conflict, the United Nations said the figures provided by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip have proven consistently credible in the past.
