General Motors and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement, according to sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Reuters on Monday.

This breakthrough brings an end to a coordinated six-week strike against the Detroit Three automakers, securing remarkable wage increases.

The recent agreements, including those with Ford Motor and Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, represent significant victories for auto workers.

This comes after years of stagnant wages and challenging concessions the union had to make in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Reuters reported.
