I should add the reason for using the original tank and housing is that there is a one-way valve at the stem of the tank. You need that one-way valve. It's what forces the hot water to only go in one direction. When the pressure builds it seats the ball again the ball seat and shuts off the flow. As pressure decreases gravity and the flow of water pushes the ball back down and water can once again flow to the heating element.
