In the Jalazone refugee camp in the Occupied West Bank, as night falls, fear and anxiety grip the residents. The Safi family, originally from the Lid area, now crowded into one flat, speaks of the emotional toll they bear. The past and present merge in their stories, with memories of previous conflicts, detentions, and personal losses. For 14-year-old Mahmoud, nightly fear is a constant companion, a bullet barely missing him as he once stood by a window. The tragedy of a schoolboy killed while eating a falafel sandwich lingers, leaving parents like Amal on edge whenever their children leave the house. Settlers in the vicinity add to the tension, with a rising number of daily attacks on Palestinians. The trauma is palpable, with Tuline, who survived a settler attack, finding solace in her dolls and a deep-seated connection to her lost friends. The enduring occupation perpetuates a cycle of fear, death, and grief, leaving the entire Palestinian population living on the edge.

Al Jazeera’s Hoda Abdel-Hamid reports from the occupied West Bank.
