SHREVEPORT, La. - Renovations to Shreveport’s Duck Park are officially complete. From the look of the full parking lot Wednesday, it’s been a popular attraction.

“It’s something about it, I just love it since I’m a big girl,” said Poppy Brown, one of the youngsters enjoying the playground.

This project took over a year to complete, as crews experienced delays in receiving equipment, and then the harsh thunderstorms in the summer damaged some of the brand-new pieces. Portions of the park remained open while crews diligently worked on other parts, however, and now the Broadmoor neighborhood has a safe and colorful new play space.

The renovation includes a colorful fish design painted on the asphalt walkway, several new slides and climbing equipment, and repairs to the benches, fences and picnic shelter — all for a cost between $250,000 and $300,000.

“This is one of the many updates that we’re doing at SPAR for our parks, so please come out and enjoy the new equipment in this community,” said Katie Martin, a city landscape archtect with SPAR.

SPAR plans to install ADA-compliant equipment and pathways at Princess Park starting in January and install new playground equipment at Betty Virginia Park the following spring.
