Halloween Horror 2023 Finale- Silent Hill PS1- The Sewers En Route to the Amusement Park

Out of all possible ratings: Terrible, Bad, Average, Good, Great....

My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Good!

Despite being very old, Silent Hill holds up surprisingly well. Generally, when a game is as old as Silent Hill, I get a bit uneasy embarking on the playthrough because you never how the game's mechanics will hold up compared to the standards of today. That being said (and that's a big factor because if the game plays like garbage who cares how good it's supposed to be?) fans of survival horror will feel right at home with this entry. If I were to list the series from best to worst this would come in #2 right after Silent Hill 2.

The atmosphere is just as good as the other games, with plenty of time spent in hell world, while the graphics are on the better side of the PS1's titles. Some of the puzzles get a bit tricky later on, but anyone can look up the solution online, so that's not a problem. What I felt was really this game's best moment was the tragedy of the nurse, Lisa. That was executed perfectly and was quite an intense moment, which upon exploring further would make one question one's own subjective and objective reality. It was a moment that was on par with Bioshock's "Would you kindly?" reveal.

The game does a good job at guiding you to your next objective without the usage of bouncing arrows, although there are moments where you may find yourself lost if you miss a line of dialogue, so pay attention. Many enemy types do not come back in the series as they are swapped out for more detailed, more fitting models that rule the space of Silent Hill much better.
