In the past, one of my favorite things about retro gaming was seeing what sorts of mods I could install to improve the visual quality of different video game systems. HDMI Mods in my NES, RGB Mods to my SNES Jr, Super Famicom Jr, and Nintendo 64, are all great and relatively easy to install. Since my Bells palsy in 2021, however, my vision has been negatively affected and I can no longer see close-up details of PCBs. I've searched for a number of solutions and JOYALENS has just sent us their JL249MS 10-inch LCD Monitor Digitial Microscope.

There are a variety of these sorts of devices out there, some that have a 4.3" display, some that feature a 7" display. This 10-inch display is one of the biggest I've seen out there! Not only that, it outputs via HDMI so technically I could connect it to my 32" gaming monitor for even a larger display!

It comes with 3 lenses depending on your application and need, 60-240x, 18-720x, 1800-2040x. It can capture video recordings at 288x2160 (odd aspect ratio) or it can capture 24MB Photos at 5600x4200. It includes a 32GB Micro SD Card for both photo capturing and video recordings.

Inside the box we received the Digital Microscope itself, Metal stand, 3 Lenses (Lens A x1, Lens D x1, Lens Lx1), USB cable, Switch cable, HDMI cable, Remote control, Slide holder, Slides kit, Observation box, Tweezers, 32GMicro SD card, and the Instruction sheet.

I have a number of Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP mods I need to work on, so I am really excited for the timing of this. Let me know in the comments if you've ever used (or needed to use) a digital microscope to be able to compensate for other visual issues!
