As the sun set, Jacob, en route from Beersheba to Haran, nestled his head on a stone in a serene locale. Drifting into slumber, he envisioned a celestial ladder, angels ascending and descending, bridging heaven and earth. Above, the Lord reaffirmed His covenant—Jacob's descendants would inherit the land, becoming a boon to all families of the earth. Awoken, Jacob was struck with divine realization, naming the spot Bethel. Overwhelmed, he made a vow—if God’s protection and provision guided him, ensuring his safe return, he’d honor the Lord. The stone, now a sacred pillar anointed with oil, marked his pledge to dedicate a tenth of all he’d receive, forging an enduring bond with the Divine.
