ℹ️ INFO ℹ️
"Does your slow cooker leach lead into your food?"
Classic 20th century Crock Pots have lead levels of 180 ppm, while EPA drinking water guidelines are 0.02 ppm. The problem with comparing lead limits in solids versus liquids has to do with the rate of leaching from a solid versus straight consumption of a liquid.

A ceramic insert with 200 ppm of lead, is highly unlikely to leach 200 ppm directly into food or liquids. However, ANY lead leaching into your food is unacceptable since lead is a systemic cumulative neurotoxin.

Lead exists in our food chain and is unavoidable in many cases, limiting exposure and consumption is important.

You don’t have to be paranoid, just be cautious & if you're overly concerned use non-ceramic slow cookers.
