Today I'm getting my marudai set up to start an 8 strand kumihimo spiral braid.

Kumihimo braiding originated from as early as the 7th century, was found in Japanese Buddhist temples, and used by samurai warriors. By the 17th century, books were produced with various kumihimo patterns.
