THE PLOT OF THE LAST OF US CONTINUES TO BECOME A REALITY

According to the study, the fungus Ophiocordyceps unilateralis completely deprives its host of nutrients and then fills its body with spores that allow the fungus to reproduce.

The parasites steal the genes of the killed insect through genome transfer. This is how they gain the ability to use their own proteins to manipulate another's nervous system.
That looks really creepy.
