Republican Representative Mike Johnson from Louisiana was chosen as the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, thereby bringing an end to a three-week-long leadership crisis that had immobilized Congress.

As the Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference and a staunch conservative, Johnson had kept a relatively low public profile until this week when he emerged into the spotlight after securing the party’s nomination for the role of Speaker.
