On July 24, 2023, at around 8:50 a.m., Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to a home in response to a report of a domestic battery by strangulation. Upon arrival at the scene, the victim advised that Adarius Hagan (B/M, DOB: 07/05/1998) struck her multiple times, strangled her, and then stole her vehicle to flee before law enforcement responded. Deputies began to search the surrounding area in an attempt to locate Hagan and the victim’s stolen vehicle.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., K9 Corporal Gabriel Pulford observed Hagan driving the victim’s vehicle southbound in the 2400 block of NE Baseline Road. He attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Hagan fled at a high rate of speed. K9 Corporal Pulford began to pursue the vehicle, and Hagan drove recklessly in an attempt to elude him. Hagan crossed the median and briefly drove into oncoming traffic before crossing the median again and striking a power pole.

Hagan was trapped inside of the vehicle, and the live power lines prevented first responders from immediately approaching him. Once the power was disconnected, Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) responded to conduct an extraction. Hagan was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following Hagan’s release from the hospital, MCSO deputies arrested him for Domestic Battery by Strangulation, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer with Disregard for Safety, and Child Neglect.
