Date – Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 – St. Raphael the Archangel

St. Raphael is an archangel featured in the Book of Tobit in the Bible. St. Raphael is one of the seven archangels who stand before the throne of God. His name means "God heals" in Hebrew, reflecting his role as a divine healer and guide. In the story, Raphael aids Tobias, a young man on a journey to retrieve his father Tobit's money. Disguised as a human, Raphael offers guidance, healing Tobit's blindness. Along the way, Raphael assists Tobias in marrying Sarah, protecting her from a demon.

1. **The Concept of Heavenly Court:** The idea of Heaven as a true court, resembling earthly courts, was more prominent in the past. God, analogous to a king, stands before Angels and Saints, creating a hierarchical and structured heavenly order.

2. **Hierarchy and Protocol:** In both earthly and heavenly courts, there is a hierarchy of functions, dignities, and mediations. Angels serve as intercessors and rulers of men, mediating between individuals and God.

3. **Role of Archangels:** St. Raphael is depicted as an eminent intercessor, a special patron of the sick and travelers. He is one of the highest angelic spirits, assisting God and interceding for human prayers.

4. **Preparation for Heaven:** Loving and appreciating earthly realities that resemble heavenly order, such as hierarchy, nobility, and distinction, prepares the soul for Heaven. Amidst chaos on Earth, the desire for Heaven becomes essential for psychological well-being.

5. **Splendor of Angels:** The splendor of even the lowest choir of Angels, such as Guardian Angels, far surpasses human nature. St. Raphael's magnificence is beyond human comprehension, indicating the grandeur of heavenly beings.

7. **Visualizing St. Raphael:** St. Raphael's grandeur can be compared to earthly magnificence and sanctity. Imagining the scene of St. Louis speaking with his mother gives an idea of the elevated nature of St. Raphael in Heaven.

8. **Joy in Contemplating St. Raphael:** St. Raphael, akin to St. Louis in Heaven, brings joy to those contemplating him. His presence offers hope and consolation, especially in the increasingly sad days on Earth.

Let us ask him to help us to reach Heaven in order to contemplate him. We should also ask him to help us maintain a constant consideration of the celestial order to give us consolation and the hope of Heaven and the Reign of Mary in the increasingly sad days in which we live.

St. Raphael the Archangel, pray for us!
