I am a big believer in starting a new hobby with something that truly excites you. Like it truly just lights your fire and gets you all excited and passionate, even if it's not a project that would typically be considered beginner friendly.

That being said, here comes in the realism part. So let's just use a corset as an example. Let's say that you're really excited about making yourself a custom made corset. Well, you can do that. Absolutely. Dive in and go for that. But I would recommend choosing a more simple design of corset. For example, my first two corsets were very basic and utilitarian. They were both underbust corsets, which made them a lot easier to pattern and fit.

Being able to complete those first corsets, which were very simple, gave me the morale boost that I needed to eventually go on my path of making more complex Victorian corsets, corded corsets, complex embroidery and flossing and lace and that kind of thing.
