"America is the devil": Protesters near US embassy in Beirut hit with water cannon, tear gas

Lebanese police used tear gas and a water cannon to repel scores of protesters demonstrating on Wednesday near the U.S. embassy in Beirut against what they believed was Israel's attack on a hospital in Gaza that killed hundreds of Palestinians.

The United States has been targeted for criticism across the region for pledging ironclad support for Israel in its war in Gaza after Hamas carried out a deadly cross-border attack into Israel on Oct. 7.

"America is the real devil because it supported Israel and then all the world is blind," one protester said.
