Gloster Meteor: Britain’s JET FIGHTER

The mighty Gloster Meteor was the first British FIGHTER JET, and the first jet fighter to engage in AIR COMBAT during WW2. Built to take on the German ME 262, the Meteor served with distinction with the British Royal Air Force but the two jet adversaries never met in aerial combat. In addition to RAF service, Gloster Meteors operated with numerous air forces across the world for decades to follow, including serving with distinction in several regional conflicts. For today’s AVIATION ART release, we paint a squadron of RAF meteors cruising through the Cold War skies above Europe.
