Color me pink 5k windber 1st overall 19:48

One of my more slower 5ks times. The conditions and course slowed me. It was chilly and rainy. Between 48-50 on drive but definitly wasnt that high at the start, dropped a few. Temps wernt bad it was the wind and cold rain and it was that cold rain that sucked. Plus its in windber so the hillside gets hammered good with the wind. Crowd was very small compared to some previous years. Seems like less people going each year. Weather had factor today though. So not many runners showed still had good amount of walkers. I didn't really warm up much was letting beginning of race be my warm up.

Started a couple rows deep so I didnt go out fast. Let the youngsters take off. By time we hit the hill a couple tenths in I was in 3rd quickly went to 2nd then just reeled in 1st as I stayed steady going up it. Was not planning to go hard unless had to.

Legs did burn in the steepest part through thr cemetary. I was kind of aggravated at that. It does get steep for short bit. Just was trying to avoid that. Once started leveling off again I was all good. Legs recovered. I lead rest race once I took lead. I wasn't paying attention to the cpurse itself I had it on my watch and it was marked well amd capuld still see through the leaves on the road I just used my memory and the police crusier suv to lead the way so was less stressed.

By time hit windber park had I'd say 30 seconds. Which was mile 1. All miles were like 6:30's range. Park was little slick from the wetness and leaves. Did open gap some more in there. Way back was easier since I feel it's a decline whole time not always noticible but there. Basically cruised in way back. Kept that 630ish steady pace but didn't mix stride up or pull back.

By time finished I'd say had good minute lead not sure if it was anymore then that I didnt look at results much just my time.

At times during the race the rain came back with the rain. It was a real motivation killer. I swear it was a 20° swing when it did even though it was brief. Had to go around the police crusier a few times as they stopped and not wanting break stride. It is a competetive race but also for fun. They do throw that pink color dust stuff for breast cancer month. This year I got nailed a few times but this year the kids doing it threw the stuff on lower body some years they threw at peopel faces.

I wore compression shorts, shorts over them, long sleeve shirt with my black windbreaker over top, took a gaiter and light cotton gloves. Did get a little warm but it beats having been cold.
