Most of what you hear about Plato's Republic is academic drivel. The Republic is a work of pure genius, and provides a basis for the rebuilding of our civilization after a century of drift into unimaginable destruction.

Does not the Republic celebrate humanity's triumph, when, after centuries of violence, treachery, and decay, human creative genius is once again reasserted—as if out of the blue? "Out of the blue" is where Plato's genius lies, not on the dusty shelves of academic libraries.
