Pakistan's 3-time deposed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returned to the country after living in self-imposed exile for four years. Soon after landing, the veteran politician addressed his supporters gathered from across the country in his political stronghold of Lahore.

The leader of one of the biggest political parties in Pakistan, Sharif recounted the economic progress the country saw during his time and reminded the audience of the alleged political victimization he suffered before he left Pakistan in 2019. He promised economic recovery for the South Asian nation of almost 250 million people that's been struggling with a mounting debt burden and sky-high inflation for months.

Sharif has returned to Pakistan at a time when his archrival and former prime minister Imran Khan is in jail on corruption charges and the country is headed toward general elections slated for early next year.

Sharif himself is also out on short-term bail. He was convicted of corruption in 2018 but left the country for medical treatment. Later, he was declared an absconder in other cases due to his prolonged absence from Pakistan. His legal team is now working to get his prison sentences overturned. #Pakistan #Politics #reels #videography #voanews
