Historic Site: Custer's Camp 2 Days Before Little Big Horn - June 23, 1876 - Rosebud Creek, Montana

The Battle of Little Big Horn occurred on June 25, 1876 ... only two days after the encampment here. Second time for me on this road, first being last month on business in Forsyth. Fully intended to stop at this obscure site but came up fast and almost ... as we all usually do ... just kept on rolling. But spending the time to turn around is rarely disappointing. A Custer site was not on my mind.

Most shocking, especially after a round trip myself including these points, was that they still trudged all the hell way to Little Bighorn in 2 more days. On horseback. I was 20 minutes at least N of Lame Deer and a turn right to LBH would take ?90 minutes? it seems. At 65 mph. Custer must have had a more direct trail than Highway 212.
Just a quick stop. But one that only boosted the whole awed appreciation of The Battle of Little Big Horn, western history in general and all parties concerned:
1. That the Native Americans thrived there in this vastness (or any humans for that matter).
2. That the U.S. Army (or anybody, pioneers included) dared wandering into this vastness.
2a. That either #1 or #2 found each other.
3. That anybody could figure out where they were, travel such distances and do so living off the land without flinging selves off some high cliff.

Very incredible country. Well worth the detour if on this particular far edge of the Earth.
