After several months of researching highly rated air fryers, we developed criteria for recommending specific models.
At first the questions were tame and simplistic…
1.) Is it easy to clean?
2.) Does the handle break off?
3.) Does the door hinge melt off?
4.) Does the basket rust or warp?
5.) Does the button lettering rub off?
6.) Does the fan make excessive noise?
7.) Does it leak grease & oil?
8.) Does it smell like burning plastic?
9.) Does it turn on by itself?

As we discovered more serious problems, the questions became worrisome…

1.) Does the non-stick coating flake off into your food?
2.) Does it have a tempered glass door that explodes?
3.) Does it smoke so bad you cannot see or breathe?
4.) Does the wiring short out and/or melt electrical outlets?
5.) Does the drip tray spontaneously combust?
6.) Does it catch fire?
7.) Does it catch fire from simply being plugged in?
8.) Does it melt off the bottom of the fryer?
9.) Does the heating element shatter or explode sending out hazardous shrapnel?

Why on earth would we be asking questions like these? Simple, because these are all events that have occurred in almost every brand and model of air fryer to some degree.

Research for yourself…try searching reviews using the keywords = glass, handle, teflon, fire, toxic, and flames.

Of course these issues could be user error, improper care, shipping related damage or unscrupulous resellers pushing damaged, refurbished, recalled or used air fryers.

Each day hundreds of thousands of air fryers safely do exactly what they are supposed to do. This does not excuse the thousands of air fryers that infuse plastics and Teflon into food, spill scalding hot grease on family members or completely melt down and catch fire.
