Unwilling to pay $800 to replace a highfalutin Marmot Zero-Degree Down Backpacking Sleeping Bag, I began thinking about alternatives. I wasn't willing to give up warmth, packability, or low weight, but I wanted it for as cheap as possible. The solution is so simple and obvious: Layered dress is superior to heavy, single garments in the woods, and layers turned out to be the answer here. I believe I have been able to come up with a 4-season "sleeping bag" that will keep me comfortable way below freezing for a mere $75 and I share it with you here.
