COMEBACK COUPLES - 140,000 Souls
140,000 souls.
Every year in the USA alone 140,000 people's lives are cut short by Alcohol and Alcohol-related diseases... 140,000...
Yet on every corner of every town, in every gas station, grocery store, airport terminal, restaurant, sporting event, Tv commercial, party, or gathering is the very thing that people choose to consume that adds to this number.
The question is why? Why does this continue? Why is this number increasing? Why is nothing being done about it?
IAMACOMEBACK is not about judgment or ridicule, or some holier-than-thou attitude about alcohol...
Its a way of life that seeks to maximize your health potential and longevity while you are on this earth.
The stats below are truly sobering...
The rate of all alcohol-related emergency department visits increased 47.0% between 2006 and 2014, which translates to an average annual increase of 210,000 alcohol-related emergency department visits.
Estimates suggest that alcohol played a role in at least 7.1% of emergency department visits and 17.4% of deaths due to opioid overdoses in 2020.
It is estimated that more than 140,000 people (approximately 97,000 men and 43,000 women) die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the fourth-leading preventable cause of death in the United States behind tobacco, poor diet and physical inactivity, and illegal drugs.
An analysis of death certificates from 2019 and 2020 showed that deaths involving alcohol rose from approximately 79,000 to more than 99,000, a 25.5% increase.
Between 2015 and 2019, the leading causes of alcohol-attributable deaths due to chronic conditions in the United States were liver diseases (e.g., alcohol-associated liver diseases and unspecified liver cirrhosis), cardiovascular diseases, cancers of various types (e.g., organs of the upper respiratory and digestive tracts, liver, colon, and breast), and alcohol use disorder (AUD)
In 2021, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities accounted for 13,384 deaths (or 31% of overall driving fatalities).
According to the most recent estimate from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 21.0% of suicide decedents have blood alcohol concentrations of 0.1% or more.
Among people who die by suicide, AUD is the second most common mental disorder and is involved in roughly 1 in 4 deaths by suicide.
