Doctor at Al-Ahli Hospital describes moment of attack

In a harrowing press conference amid the devastating aftermath of a missile strike on Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, a doctor shared a chilling account of the horrifying scene that unfolded as a result of the attack.

‘We heard a missile screech followed by a huge explosion,’ he said. ‘As a result of the explosion, part of the ceiling of the operating room fell.’ He escaped unharmed, but few were so lucky. ‘I could see bodies of children piled up… As I was walking towards the ambulance, there were body parts everywhere.’

His dismay quickly turned to anger as he spoke. He described how the hospital had been used as a safe haven for families fleeing the war. ‘These very same families who are now either dead or critically wounded as a result of this attack.’ He then laid the blame not only at Israel, but at Israel’s western allies who have condoned the bombing of Gaza. ‘The impunity that Israel believes it has from its Western allies is what has led to this massacre… What happened today is a war crime, and if the Israelis get away with it again, then more war crimes will be committed.’

Israel has denied responsibility for the attack, and has blamed a Palestinian rocket that misfired.
