One definition of “rural” from Neighborhood Heritage Districts: A Handbook for
New Hampshire Municipalities -
Many New Hampshire towns and cities have stretches of rural roads that still
convey their agricultural heritage. Farmhouses, barns and other outbuildings,
stone walls, mature roadside and front yard trees, roadside fields and lower
density are some of the more typical features that characterize these areas.
