It’s easy to get attached to a particular artist singing a song, especially if they were the original artist it was written for, but that’s not the case for all the hits we’ve come to know and love today. In fact, there are quite a few hits that had originally been written for one artist but ended up in the hands of someone completely different. Stick around as we dive into which artists passed on songs that went on to be great hits, and why they said “no”.
There are many reasons why songs don’t end up with the original artists, but when you get to see which songs made it on this list, it might make sense to you why these songs ended up with the artists they did; like, it just makes sense!

In some cases the artist’s management just doesn’t feel like a song is the right direction for their artists, just ask Cee Lo Green and the song “Happy” that ended up with Pharrell Williams. Or it’s the writer and performer that feels a song that they had originally intended for one artist may not suit that artist’s vibe, like Ed Sheeran did with Rihanna. Sometimes it’s just down to scheduling. Whatever the reason, these artists missed out on some great hits.

We want to hear from you, so let us know in the comments which songs you were surprised to find out were meant for another singer. To also continue receiving updates and news on your favorite celebs, be sure to like, share and subscribe to TheThings Celebrity.
