MSP won't patrol Detroit area where teen on ATV died
Michigan State Police have announced that they won't patrol the area in Detroit where a teen on an ATV died when a trooper tased him during a chase. The news that MSP will no longer be in the 9th precinct comes as more protests demand answers and accountability after the crash that killed 15-year-old Damon Grimes. MSP says the decision was made just a week after the deadly crash that is now under investigation. Grimes was on an ATV last month when MSP troopers demanded he stop because of reckless driving. He didn't according to police, and at one point, Grimes was tased and lost control, slamming into a truck. They have patrolled the 9th precinct since 2012, part of Michigan's "secure cities partnership initiative." The decision to stop is an attempt to not cause animosity, which has grown in the wake of Grimes' death. The latest protest was at Oak Park on Monday.
