Introduction: Exodus means "exit", and this book deals with the most important event in the history of the people of Israel, that is, the exit of the Israelites from Egypt, where they were slaves. The book has four main parts: 1) The release of the Israelites; 2) The trip to Mount Sinai; 3) God's covenant made with his people on Mount Sinai, where God gave him moral, civil and religious laws; 4) The construction of a place of worship for the people of Israel and the laws regarding the priesthood and the worship of God.
Above all, this book describes what God did, how he delivered his people and how, out of those people, he formed a nation full of hope for the future.
The central human figure in the book of Moses, the man whom God chose to bring his people out of Egypt. In chapter 3 we read how God called Moses and revealed his sacred name "I am what I am". The best-known excerpt from the book is the list of the Ten Commandments in chapter 20.
