The Concerto (Gioconda's Smile)

I'm in a concert hall.
They're playing Vivaldi and in the course of the first theme, I can see the seat next to me is empty. I begin to create you out of my own imagination and to see you by my side, listening to music with me. But the first theme returns and shows me your seat still empty. In agony, I create you once more and to keep you from escaping me, I take your hand and keep hold of it in mine, until the first theme returns again, leaving your seat empty again. I caress the empty seat , which is still warm from your body, and once again I can feel your breathing near me. But now, that first theme comes back definitively, tyrannically and desperately, revealing the truth to me.
I am alone, the seat is empty, and you do not exist.
