27th In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. What if having Escaped, they are re-enslaved by sin? - 2 Peter 2:20
* A. When a professing believer is overcome by sin - Galatians 6:1-2
* 1. Qualifications to help the ensnared
* a. It must be sin as defined by God’s Law
* b. The helper must be spiritually mature
* c. The goal must be restoration of the fallen
* d. Gentleness and humility are prerequisites
* e. The helper must be willing to bear burdens
* 2. If they are re-ensnared by sin and unable with help from fellow disciples to escape the trap then what?
* B. The question arises what has happened to them, are they are now worse off than before? - 2 Peter 2:21-22
* 1. The unrepentant is by heart and deed turning from the Holy Commandment
* 2. The ensnaring sin is like vomit that a dog returns to

II. Jesus Explains with a Parable - Mark 4:2-20 
* A. First soil - hardened foot path, rejects the Word of God 
* B. Second soil - thin layer of earth with hard rock pan beneath
* 1. The plant looks like it is alive initially
* 2. It never bears fruit because persecution withers it
* C. Third soil - seeds of weeds mixed in, weeds outgrow the good
* 1. The plant looks alive initially
* 2. But the cares of this world chock out the plant
* D. Fourth soil - the good soil
* 1. The seed takes root, goes down deep 
* 2. It yields a fruitful abundant harvest
* E. Guard your heart, prepare it for persecution, protect it from the cares of this world bring forth good fruit - Galatians 5:22-23
