Chickies Enjoying Dust Bath 🐓🐥🐣

The Chickies need access to a dust bath area! This helps them prevent ticks and fleas from infesting the flock. Its the natural and instinctual way the chickens know how to take care of themselves! They need a dust bath area all through winter but the majority of bugs will die off if they havnt been able to find a host to live on. The birds will always have some fleas and ticks just because they are outdoor animals! If the infestation gets to your flock, the stress can be the start of a rough winter for your birds, so make sure to keep an area the chickies can take dust baths! Some folks will use a cats litter box full of dirt as a makeshift dust bath location if the chickens dont have access to the dirt. In the winter the ground being saturated with water makes not the best conditions for dusting. As well the snow might cover the ground for weeks at a time an prevent access to the soil below the chickes want to dust themselves in!
