Israel forms unity government to oversee war sparked by Hamas attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a prominent political rival joined forces on Wednesday to establish a wartime Cabinet responsible for overseeing the response to the heinous attack by Hamas militants over the weekend.

In the isolated Gaza Strip, Palestinian suffering intensified as Israeli airstrikes razed neighborhoods, and the sole power plant ran out of fuel.

Netanyahu made a solemn commitment to “crush and obliterate” Hamas. He declared in a televised address, “Every member of Hamas faces a grim fate.”

The formation of the new Cabinet reflects a measure of unity after years of divisive politics and comes at a time when the Israeli military appears increasingly inclined to launch a ground offensive in Gaza, the Associated Press reported.
