Upon reaching the academy and not telling the Overseer Tremel, his biological father, that he was his son. Lermat faced his trials like any other student of the academy. The shear absence of privilege due his rank was a shock to Lermat. He was used to being mistreated by his family, except for his mother, but the others outside his noble house had always shown deference through tradition or force.

There in the academy, there was tradition but it was so much different than his home. There in the institution of learning, he had to make it on his own merits. There was no help from persons in faculty or student, unless he formed bonds himself. For most this was disconcerting, from what he could tell but for him it was an epiphany...
