A 33-year-old man was apprehended after jumping into the reflection pool at the 9/11 memorial in New York City, leading to charges of criminal mischief and trespass.

On October 9th, just before 1:30 pm, the individual leapt into the North Pool at the World Trade Center, resulting in an immediate response from EMS. The man, who suffered a leg injury but remained in stable condition, was transported to Bellevue Hospital.

The NYPD has charged him with criminal mischief and trespass, and an ongoing investigation is underway to understand the motives behind his actions.

Videos shared on social media captured the man walking towards the middle basin and lying in the shallow water. In response to the incident, security guards secured the pool's perimeter with chains to prevent further access.

While the reasons for his actions remain unknown, officials do not believe it was politically motivated. According to a Port Authority spokesperson, the man appeared to be emotionally disturbed.
