Nearly $22 million in Michigan Spark Grants will benefit 31 of the state’s communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grants are meant to pave the way for the creation, renovation and redevelopment of public recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.

This will be the final round of the grants. The first took place in February when $14.2 million were handed out to 21 communities.

The money comes from the American Rescue Plan Act, with the DNR being tasked to distribute the money.
