Explosions rocked Ashkelon, a southern Israeli city, following a warning from Hamas for residents to evacuate. Hamas' armed wing, the al Qassam Brigades, launched rockets at the city in response to perceived enemy actions.

Israeli armed forces activated their 'Iron Dome' defenses to intercept Hamas rockets, with many reportedly being stopped from reaching Ashkelon. Casualty details are currently unclear.

Hamas had instructed Ashkelon residents to leave by a specific time before initiating the attacks, urging those who hadn't evacuated to seek shelter.

On Monday, rockets were also fired from Lebanon into Israel, with Israel responding by intercepting some of the rockets.

Israel confirmed over 1,000 casualties in Hamas attacks since Saturday, including over 100 hostages. In retaliation, Israel conducted airstrikes and reported the deaths of two senior Hamas officials.

Israel's actions have also led to a blockade of essential supplies in Gaza, with a potential ground invasion looming. More than 180,000 Gaza residents have been displaced.

Hamas' political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, stated that the group wouldn't negotiate the release of hostages until hostilities cease.

A Hamas spokesperson warned of potential retaliation: "begin executing an Israeli civilian captive in return for any new Israeli bombing of civilians' houses without pre-warning."
