A protester disrupted Sir Keir Starmer's speech at the Labour conference by showering the party leader with glitter. The incident caused a brief delay as security swiftly removed the protester from the stage and he was subsequently arrested.

The protest was organized by People Demand Democracy, a group known for using disruptive tactics to advocate for electoral reform. Despite the glittery interruption, Sir Keir remained composed, stating, "Protest or power, that's why we've changed," as he continued with his vision for a Labour-led government.

A spokesperson confirmed that Sir Keir was unfazed by the incident, emphasizing his resilience. However, the incident raises questions about the effectiveness of his security arrangements.

The protester, wearing a People Demand Democracy T-shirt, highlighted the need for political updates in front of a surprised audience in Liverpool. Merseyside Police arrested a 28-year-old man from Surrey on charges of assault, breach of the peace, and causing public nuisance in connection with the incident.

People Demand Democracy is advocating for a fair, proportional voting system for Westminster elections and the creation of a permanent, democratically selected national House of Citizens.

Despite the disruption, Sir Keir received multiple standing ovations during his speech, where he outlined plans for a "decade of national renewal" under a Labour government, including the construction of 1.5 million new homes. This incident is reminiscent of past demonstrations during political speeches at conferences.
