Israel faces a major and deep dilemma as it retaliates against the Hamas terrorist group.

Former Israeli ambassador to Australia Mark Sofer said the country is analysing the balance between saving innocent hostages and destroying Hamas completely.

“To make sure that the Hamas will never, ever be able to even think about carrying out such atrocities in the future,” Mr Sofer told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“Or weakened to some extent that they hopefully won’t exist anymore as an entity.

“On the other hand, the deep worry for the hostages … there’s a lot of psychological warfare coming out of the Hamas, we have to manage that.”
