The History Of Milkshakes

The term milkshake was first used in 1885. The drink was originally an alcoholic whiskey drink. Today's milkshakes weren't invented until the 1930s. Milkshakes were a special treat in the early 1900s because hand blender's weren't invented yet. Malted milkshakes became popular thanks to Walgreens. Outside of the U.S. milkshakes are often called thick shakes or frappes. Whatever you call it, milkshakes are iconic and delicious. Happy National Chocolate Milkshake Day!
