Very good question. Yes the self help industry is quickly gaining a reputation of somewhere at the level of second hand car salesmen used to have. In that there’s a lot of people who can’t do who teach. So where should you put your trust? It’s not in mentorship coaching that you should be putting your trust, it’s in who’s behind the mentorship coaching. Has the person got the character, does that person have the competence, is this person teaching because they aren’t really good at doing so they’re trying to make a few beans out of doing that, which is very common. The whole life coaching industry is full of it.
So being involved in a situation where you’ve done your homework, you’ve done your research, you’ve gone out there and found the right person. In terms of putting your trust in life coaching itself, the answer is very simple. You’re both getting your personal development and you’re getting your professional development in one, by a person that is competent and who’s walking his talk, who has walked his or her talk, and cares about human beings, most importantly. That this person is a human being, not an automaton. That they are feeling, they come from here (points at his chest, his heart), this is where the passion is, they put their heart into what they do, and they put their heart into people that they serve, that’s got to be the number 1 criteria. Then life coaching, or bicycle riding, is going to work well, because the right energy has been put in consistently, you’re going to find the right approach, you’re going to find the right way, and you’re going to find the right person if that's where you come from.
