Body Cam Video of Duane Keffe Davis Arrested for Tupac Murder
Las Vegas – Recently released footage from police body cameras captures the arrest of Duane "Keffe D" Davis on suspicion of murder in connection with the 1996 shooting of Tupac Shakur near the Las Vegas Strip.
On the morning of September 29, 60-year-old Davis was approached by officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department while walking near his home in the Henderson suburb. The officers, identifying themselves as Metro Police, called out to Davis, who was on the opposite side of the street. "Hey Keffe, Metro Police. Come over here," the officer said.
Cooperating with the officers, Davis, holding a water bottle, was handcuffed. The ensuing conversation between Davis and the officers primarily revolved around his request for water.
While being transported on a freeway, Davis, though not visible in the video, is heard questioning an officer about potential surveillance the previous night. The officer responded negatively. Davis then asked, "So why you all didn't bring the media?" The officer inquired about the reason for involving the media, to which Davis replied, "That's what you all do." Later, while parked and not visible on camera, an off-screen voice asked Davis, "So what they got you for, man?"
"Biggest case in Las Vegas history," Davis asserted. When asked if it was recent, he added, "September 7th, 1996," the night Shakur, then 25, was fatally shot.
Authorities claim that Davis orchestrated the killing of the hip-hop icon and provided his nephew, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, with the gun to carry out the act. Anderson, who denied involvement in Shakur's killing, passed away in 1998.
Davis had long been a suspected figure in the case and publicly admitted his role in the killing in interviews leading up to the release of his 2019 tell-all memoir, "Compton Street Legend."
In mid-July, Las Vegas police executed a raid on Davis' home, bringing renewed attention to one of hip-hop music's enduring mysteries.
Davis' initial court appearance this week was cut short when he requested a postponement to secure legal representation. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 19.
